Fair competition holds many potential benefits for consumers. There are, however, many cases of newly deregulated economies that do not yet have the legislative or institutional structure to deal with competition issues and thus benefit consumers. Even in more mature market economies there are still many challenges to be faced in this area. Therefore, there is an urgent need for dissemination of knowledge and information on topics of competition and its benefits. Consumer organizations have a role to play in ensuring that those benefits are realized. For this to take place, individuals and organizations need a thorough understanding of the issues involved, and the tools to spread awareness amongst consumers. This competition information kit addresses that need, providing materials that can be used internally or externally by consumer organizations to promote the role of competition.
